Check Me Challenge — Official Rules

These rules cover the entire Check Me Challenge and every award category in it. By joining the challenge in the Check Me app you agree to these rules. The challenge is organised by Check Me Ltd, Kigali, Rwanda.

1. The challenge

The Check Me Challenge is a community challenge inside the Check Me app that celebrates the behaviours that save lives: learning and repeating the monthly breast self-check, sharing stories that move other women to act, and inviting new people into the community. It runs for the period announced in the app; weekly recognitions are announced every Friday during the challenge, and grand awards are announced during the closing period. The exact dates are shown in the app and may shift if the organisers adjust the schedule — the in-app dates are always the ones that count.

2. Who can take part

  • Entry is free, always. No purchase, payment or Premium subscription is ever required to join or to win, and joining does not improve or worsen any health service you receive from Check Me.
  • The challenge is open across Africa and the diaspora. Physical prizes are delivered in person where we can reach you; winners everywhere else receive equivalent value the same week by cash transfer, airtime/data and Check Me Premium. Geography never excludes a champion.
  • Participants must be 18 or older. Participants aged 15–17 may take part and can receive prizes with the consent of a parent or guardian, who we will contact before any prize is delivered.
  • One person, one profile. Entering with duplicate or fake accounts disqualifies all of them.
  • Check Me staff, judging-panel members and their immediate families may join in for fun but cannot win prizes.

3. How to enter

Open the Check Me app, tap the challenge banner and tap Join. That single tap creates your Champion card — your personal record of streaks, invites and stories — and confirms you accept these rules. You can take part in as many or as few award categories as you like; there is nothing to register for beyond joining.

4. How winners are chosen

The challenge uses three layers, published openly, so it is never winner-take-all:

  • The data layer. Live app activity (checks, check-ins, invites, story engagement) produces the weekly spotlights and the grand-award shortlists. What is measured for each category is described on the category cards in the app.
  • The panel layer. A judging panel — Check Me team, a clinical advisor, a partner-organisation representative and a survivor community member — confirms all grand winners. Story categories are judged on hope, honesty and whether a story helps someone act — never on whose story is saddest. Panel decisions are final.
  • The random layer. Weekly draws (for everyone with a complete week of participation) and the finale draw give every participant — including newcomers — a real chance to win.

The Check Me Challenge is a skill-plus-judging contest with free entry. It is not a lottery, and no payment is required or accepted for entry or winning.

5. Fair play

  • Invites must be real people. An invited sign-up only counts once that person registers and opens the app within 7 days. The grand Ambassador award additionally requires that at least 40% of the people you invited are still active two weeks after joining — quality over spam.
  • Automated sign-ups, device farms, and clusters of fake installs are detected and flagged. Confirmed farming disqualifies the participant from the challenge.
  • Coordinated artificial engagement ("pods", bought reactions) is discounted from scoring. Because humans confirm every grand winner, bought engagement can never buy a crown.
  • Suspicion never auto-disqualifies: every disqualification is a human decision by the Check Me team, with the reason recorded. If you believe a decision about you is wrong, contact us (see section 9) and a person will review it.

6. Prizes and delivery

  • Prizes are described in the app and may grow during the challenge as sponsors join; we announce every addition publicly. No cash alternative is offered except where a prize is delivered as its stated cash/transfer equivalent for remote winners.
  • Weekly recognitions are delivered the same week they are announced. Grand prizes are delivered before the challenge officially closes.
  • Before any cash prize is paid out we verify the winner's identity — this protects winners and keeps the challenge fair.
  • Winners may be asked whether they would like to appear in Check Me's channels. Appearing is always optional and never a condition of receiving a prize; anonymous participants are celebrated under their pseudonym.

7. Stories, dignity and safety

  • This is not a suffering contest. Judging criteria reward hope, honesty and impact — never severity of hardship.
  • Anonymity is honoured end-to-end: anonymous storytellers compete equally, and if they win they are contacted and paid privately while the story is celebrated under its pseudonym.
  • Every story passes Check Me's normal review before publishing; the challenge changes nothing about moderation or community rules.
  • Care comes first. If a story or check-in discloses active symptoms, our standard care pathway is triggered regardless of the challenge.
  • If any published content causes harm or distress, we commit to reviewing takedown requests within 24 hours. Our safeguarding contact is listed in section 9.

8. Privacy

Your Champion card is private — only you see your own numbers. Publicly we share winners and shortlists (with your consented display name or pseudonym), never full rankings of participants. All data handling follows the Check Me Privacy Policy.

9. Changes, disputes and contact

We may adjust challenge dates, categories or prizes to keep the challenge fair and workable; material changes are announced in the app. Judging-panel decisions are final. These rules are governed by the laws of the Republic of Rwanda.
